Tabula Rasa
Ending the year
As the year is winding down and exams are quickly approaching, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to Tabula Rasa this year! I wish everyone the best of luck on exams!
I miss
By: Alyssa Lynn
I miss when things were simple.
When an entire day could be consumed by imagination
And there would be no consequences when our feet touched the ground once more.
I miss not having to worry about how I looked every time I looked in a mirror.
When I wasn’t judged because I liked wearing something that was uncommon.
I miss having time to read.
I don’t just mean a little.
I miss being able to lose myself in a book for hours without having to stay up past midnight
To assure my grades wouldn’t fall.
I miss those times
When I felt like I had forever.
I miss the times
When I didn’t feel like I was losing some of my closest friends.
I miss the days
When I didn’t have to worry about being separated from people I desperately cared about.
I miss the days
When I could play until sunset
With the people I love most.
I wish I could remember
What if felt like
To not be worried or stressed about something.
Time has flown by so quickly,
And I’m scared.
I’m scared that my entire life will go by
And I’ll be trying to figure out where it all went.
But here I am
Taking that next step.
Beginning a new chapter.
I don’t know where I’ll be in five years,
Or even two.
But I want to make something of my life.
And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
When an entire day could be consumed by imagination
And there would be no consequences when our feet touched the ground once more.
I miss not having to worry about how I looked every time I looked in a mirror.
When I wasn’t judged because I liked wearing something that was uncommon.

What Bothers Me the most about humans
By: Alyssa Lynn
What bothers me the most about people,
Is the way they treat other people.
We are social creatures, and we need each other,
So why are we so hateful?
We poke and prod.
We judge,
And then shove those who don’t meet our standards out into the cold.
We cheer for gay pride and the abolition of sexism,
And that’s wonderful!
But I can’t help wondering… knowing, if you will…
Even if those issues become resolved,
There will be other ones.
More people becoming outcasts. Ridiculed.
More people feeling like they don’t belong.
WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS.
WE ALL BELONG.
There’s a place for every human,
If only the rest of the human race wouldn’t prevent us from finding it.

If only the rest of the human race wouldn’t prevent us from finding it.
Optimism
By: Taylor Bauer
When you hear me all you think of is rainbows, unicorns, and fairytales. I am so much more than that. I shine brightest at your darkest hour. I am kin to Hope and a sharp blade at Depression’s throat. I am common but not everywhere. Where I lack, it rains down despair on the unchanged landscape. It is the kingdom of my twin Pessimism. Pessimism is a selfish attribute, unlike I who changes at will. She does not admit to change and has always remained constant. She looks upon her people that have all chosen her of freewill. She takes what she pleases and leaves an unending ocean of darkness in her wake. I, on the other hand, am her foil to a tee. If you chose to follow me, I will never leave you. I dry up the sea to make a clear path to follow. I am not Perfection; he’ll be the first to ascertain your flaws. I do my best to carry you through all his jagged cliff doubts, and most of the time, I keep evil thoughts at bay. He does not mean you harm and has only the best intentions; however, he has the worst butter-fingers and couldn’t keep you in his grip, safe from Falter, if he tried. Now Falter and I are well acquainted but not friends. We meet in passing and for that moment you are tempted to jump from my open hand into his golden palm. Some choose to take the leap only to find his illusion. You fall through the golden mist into the fuzzy depths below between my open hand and the kingdom of my twin. In that place I cannot persuade you, nor can she. It is your choice on who to follow. Many find themselves here a number of times in their lives; however, the choice is always the same. Sometimes in that place you humans feel so alone, like we can’t understand or we attributes must be too busy to have such problem. We have problems issues if you wish. I have Joy, Perfection, and Ecstatic as friends. They often tease me of how I flirt with Faith. He is blind as is Love, his brother. Then there is Fate or Destiny and just as her name changes so does our relationship. Half the time we are best friends, leading you down the same bright path, and, the other half, we are sworn enemies playing tug-of-war with your emotions unable to win without your input. But wherever you are and no matter what you’ve done, I will always be here for you. If you think about it, we are not all that different. My home is even similar to yours. You have probably heard of it. It is called life. And in this place of ever changing geography, I will always have my hand open, a genuine smile, and sunshine eyes ready to help you along your way. I am Optimism.

Before Us
Echoing steps
edges catch on carven stone
crumbling –
O, the life before us!
Bustle, jostle,
look down on concrete, ants
pulsing –
Oh, the life before us!
Dark horizon
poised awaiting Revelation
breathless –
Oh, the life before us!
edges catch on carven stone
crumbling –
O, the life before us!
Bustle, jostle,
look down on concrete, ants
pulsing –
Oh, the life before us!
Dark horizon
poised awaiting Revelation
breathless –
Oh, the life before us!
Luke Field's reviews
According to an article from The Los Angeles Times, the United States has significantly reduced funding to various scientific institutions. This has resulted in various cutbacks and many Professors are telling their students to try and find jobs outside of the academic world. As a result of these cutbacks, the US was not part of any of the major scientific advancements made this past year, one of the most notable being the landing of a spacecraft on a comet. This reduction in funding is placing the United State's scientific future in jeopardy and it is important that we try to regain the will to contribute to common knowledge and scientific advancement.
Furious 7
I vividly remember watching The Fast and The Furious as a kid. This was one of the most exciting movies I've ever watched, then or now. So it was with a heavy heart I went to go see Furious 7 earlier this month. To see Paul Walker in his final movie was heart-wrenching to say the least, having been a part of the family for so long. As for the movie, it's everything you could possibly want from a Fast and Furious movie. Cool cars, action, beautiful women, you name it. Jason Statham is remarkable as a cold-blooded killer and Nathalie Emmanuel makes an exciting entrance into the franchise as the brilliant hacker Ramsey. The film also provides ample room for future installments in the series with the many new characters being introduced. All in all, if you are looking for a pure, simple, unadulterated adrenaline rush, go for it. The movie does not expect you to ask questions, it simply expects you to sit there and enjoy yourself.
