the page lies blank
expectant
waiting
the pen hovers
ink eager
soon to be spilled forth
in joyous expression
joyous
not in content, in words
perhaps, but
in that it is
free
living
ink wet
upon
the page
alive
until
there comes
a day
death-dust
drifts
slow-soft
smooths
word-edge
dull
.
dank
.
dead

Luke Field's Reviews
Recently, students from the Theatre Department of SVGS were invited to see a dress rehearsal of JMU’s production of Sweet Charity. Throughout the nearly two and a half hour performance, I sat in rapt attention. The talented cast and crew had me spellbound. The choreography was better than what I had seen on Broadway. Yes, it was that good. The singing and the acting made the performance something to be remembered. The only criticisms I save are for the musical itself. The plot was confusing and the music left me wanting more. The climax came as a shock, which isn’t a bad thing in and of itself; however, the falling action was virtually nonexistent. I left the theater with more questions than I wanted, and none of them good. There are ambiguous endings, and then there’sSweet Charity. That being said, I would almost certainly see it again if only for the choreography and the talented cast. Those both made Sweet Charity something special.
